Sam Harris came to Jacob’s valley with his brother Tom and his sister-in-law Molly in The Medicine Box. In that book, he was a minor character, helping his uncle on his farm and living in a small storage room in the barn. Between that book and The Sampler, he and Allie become best friends and fishing buddies. That only made sense because they were the only two single young people in the valley once Norrie left.
In The Sampler, Sam still works for his uncle, but now lives in John’s old cabin since his uncle built a new one. Over the years, his feelings for Allie changed from friendship to something more. The stronger his feelings grow, the more he wishes he understood women better. He knows he doesn’t want a marriage like his brother Tom and Molly or like his Uncle John and Florence. Still, he wants to marry Allie sometime in the future, just not now.
His whole world changes when Brad Connors brings three orphans to the valley, and Sam take them in with Allie’s offer of help.
Sickness, death, and a forced marriage brings “sometime in the future” to now! As Allie learns what it means to be a godly wife, Sam travels on a journey to become the husband Allie needs.
Hint: this is a romance, so everything ends happily ever after.
