Welcome to my world—the world of the family of Angus and Mary MacPherson.
I have been writing for years, but everything fell into place after my son’s graduation from law school. At his graduation, a bag and pipe group played the song “Scotland, the Brave.” I fell in love with the song and wanted it for the inspiration of my stories. Unfortunately, that song wasn’t written until way after the time period in which I write—the mid-1860s. My son, the sweet man that he is, searched for other old Scottish songs and came across “MacPherson’s Lament/Rant.” Once again, I fell in love with a Scottish song, but this one had a longer history to it—one that I could use. Robert Burns even wrote a poem about poor Jamie MacPherson.
“My MacPhersons” came to America at the beginning of the 1800s when Angus and Mary MacPherson arrived.
Angus and Mary had twelve children and eighty-nine grandchildren. I am writing about the grandchildren, although Granny and Grandda MacPherson still play a part in their grandchildren’s lives.
I hope you enjoy reading about “my MacPhersons” as much I enjoy writing about them. Look for regular articles about their lives posted here.
